Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Google Android (Smartphone Operating System) (the affected version is unknown). Affected is the function msm_pcm_adsp_stream_cmd_put of the component Linux Kernel. The manipulation of the argument param_length with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Integer overflow can occur in msm_pcm_adsp_stream_cmd_put() function if the user supplied data "param_length" goes beyond certain limit in Android releases from CAF using the linux kernel (Android for MSM, Firefox OS for MSM, QRD Android) before security patch level 2018-06-05.
The bug was discovered 06/05/2018. The weakness was presented 07/06/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at source.android.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-5898 since 01/19/2018.
