A denial of service vulnerability exists when Windows improperly handles File Transfer Protocol (FTP) connections. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could cause a target system to stop responding.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 110981 (KB4338824: Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 July 2018 Security Update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91456 (Microsoft Windows Security Update July 2018).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
