A vulnerability was found in Ceph (the affected version is unknown). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the component cephx Auth Protocol. A flaw was found in the way signature calculation was handled by cephx authentication protocol. An attacker having access to ceph cluster network who is able to alter the message payload was able to bypass signature checks done by cephx protocol. Ceph branches master, mimic, luminous and jewel are believed to be vulnerable.
The bug was discovered 07/30/2018. The weakness was shared 07/10/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at tracker.ceph.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-1129 since 12/04/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
