Details
A vulnerability was found in iTrack Easy (the affected version is unknown) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the component Session Handler. The manipulation of the argument passwd as part of a POST Parameter leads to a session fixiation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-384. Authenticating a user, or otherwise establishing a new user session, without invalidating any existing session identifier gives an attacker the opportunity to steal authenticated sessions. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Session cookies are not used for maintaining valid sessions in iTrack Easy. The user's password is passed as a POST parameter over HTTPS using a base64 encoded passwd field on every request. In this implementation, sessions can only be terminated when the user changes the associated password.
The bug was discovered 10/24/2016. The weakness was presented 07/13/2018 by Deral Heiland with Rapid7 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-6545 since 08/03/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
