A vulnerability was found in PHP FormMail Generator (Programming Language Software) (the affected version unknown) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown part in the library form.lib.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability (Stored). The code generated by PHP FormMail Generator prior to 17 December 2016 is vulnerable to stored cross-site scripting. In the generated form.lib.php file, upload file types are checked against a hard-coded list of dangerous extensions. This list does not include all variations of PHP files, which may lead to execution of the contained PHP code if the attacker can guess the uploaded filename. The form by default appends a short random string to the end of the filename.
The bug was discovered 03/07/2017. The weakness was published 07/13/2018 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-9493 since 11/21/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
