A vulnerability was found in Hughes HN7740S, DW7000 and HN7000S-SM (unknown version). It has been declared as critical. Hughes high-performance broadband satellite modems, models HN7740S DW7000 HN7000S/SM, uses hard coded credentials. Access to the device's default telnet port (23) can be obtained through using one of a few default credentials shared among all devices.
The bug was discovered 02/15/2017. The weakness was disclosed 07/13/2018 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-9495 since 11/21/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
