This issue affects some unknown processing of the file imap/command.c of the component IMAP Status Mailbox Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. An issue was discovered in Mutt before 1.10.1 and NeoMutt before 2018-07-16. imap/command.c mishandles a long IMAP status mailbox literal count size.
The bug was discovered 07/16/2018. The weakness was disclosed 07/17/2018 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mutt.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-14351 since 07/17/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
