Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in FFmpeg 2.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). This affects the function tak_decode_frame of the file libavcodec/takdec.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a array index vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-129. The product uses untrusted input when calculating or using an array index, but the product does not validate or incorrectly validates the index to ensure the index references a valid position within the array. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The issue has been introduced in 10/29/2013. The weakness was shared 01/31/2014 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team as avcodec/takdec: always check bits_per_raw_sample as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at git.videolan.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
