Details
A vulnerability was found in Apache Ignite up to 2.5 (Database Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Serialization. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a deserialization vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-502. The product deserializes untrusted data without sufficiently verifying that the resulting data will be valid. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Apache Ignite 2.5 and earlier serialization mechanism does not have a list of classes allowed for serialization/deserialization, which makes it possible to run arbitrary code when 3-rd party vulnerable classes are present in Ignite classpath. The vulnerability can be exploited if the one sends a specially prepared form of a serialized object to GridClientJdkMarshaller deserialization endpoint.
The bug was discovered 07/19/2018. The weakness was disclosed 07/20/2018 by Man Yue Mo (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.apache.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-8018 since 03/09/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
