A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in QuaZIP up to 0.7.5. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component Extraction. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. QuaZIP before 0.7.6 is vulnerable to directory traversal, allowing attackers to write to arbitrary files via a ../ (dot dot slash) in a Zip archive entry that is mishandled during extraction. This vulnerability is also known as 'Zip-Slip'.
The bug was discovered 07/13/2018. The weakness was released 07/25/2018 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is available at github.com.
