Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in KeyCloak up to 2.5.0. Affected is the function StaxParserUtil of the component SAML Request Handler. The manipulation of the argument InResponseTo with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
It was found that while parsing the SAML messages the StaxParserUtil class of keycloak before 2.5.1 replaces special strings for obtaining attribute values with system property. This could allow an attacker to determine values of system properties at the attacked system by formatting the SAML request ID field to be the chosen system property which could be obtained in the "InResponseTo" field in the response.
The bug was discovered 06/07/2018. The weakness was published 07/26/2018 with Red Hat as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-2582 since 11/30/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
