A vulnerability was found in Prosody up to 0.9.13/0.10.1 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component XMPP. prosody before versions 0.10.2, 0.9.14 is vulnerable to an Authentication Bypass. Prosody did not verify that the virtual host associated with a user session remained the same across stream restarts. A user may authenticate to XMPP host A and migrate their authenticated session to XMPP host B of the same Prosody instance.

The bug was discovered 05/31/2018. The weakness was shared 07/30/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at blog.prosody.im. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-10847 since 05/09/2018. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Upgrading to version 0.9.14 or 0.10.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
