A flaw was found in Red Hat Ceph before 0.94.9-8. The way Ceph Object Gateway handles POST object requests permits an authenticated attacker to launch a denial of service attack by sending null or specially crafted POST object requests.
The bug was discovered 11/22/2016. The weakness was presented 07/31/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at tracker.ceph.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-8626 since 10/12/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 115 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
