Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in SoftNAS Cloud up to 4.0.2 (Cloud Software). Affected is an unknown part of the component Web Administration Console. The manipulation of the argument recentVersion as part of a Parameter leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A command injection vulnerability was found in the web administration console in SoftNAS Cloud before 4.0.3. In particular, the snserv script did not sanitize the 'recentVersion' parameter from the snserv endpoint, allowing an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary commands with root permissions.
The bug was discovered 07/26/2018. The weakness was published 08/04/2018 as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-14417 since 07/19/2018. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
