Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Automation License Manager up to 5.3.4.3/6.0.0 (Automation Software). This affects some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
A vulnerability has been identified in Automation License Manager 5 (All versions < 5.3.4.4), Automation License Manager 6 (All versions < 6.0.1). A directory traversal vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to move arbitrary files, which can result in code execution, compromising confidentiality, integrity and availability of the system. Successful exploitation requires a network connection to the affected device. The attacker does not need privileges or special conditions of the system, but user interaction is required.
The bug was discovered 08/07/2018. The weakness was shared 08/07/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at cert-portal.siemens.com.
