A vulnerability was found in cPanel 11.36.2.9/11.38.2.12/11.40.0.28/11.40.1.2 (Hosting Control Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function wwwacctform of the component New Account Handler. The manipulation as part of a locale/cpmod Parameter leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

The weakness was released 02/05/2014 with Rack911 as R911-0124 as confirmed posting (Blog). The advisory is shared at blog.rack911.com. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
