java/android/webkit/BrowserFrame.java in Android before 4.4 uses the addJavascriptInterface API in conjunction with creating an object of the SearchBoxImpl class, which allows attackers to execute arbitrary Java code by leveraging access to the searchBoxJavaBridge_ interface at certain Android API levels.

The weakness was disclosed 01/10/2014 by Joshua as CVE-2014-1939 searchBoxJavaBridge_ in Android Jelly Bean as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-1939 since 02/10/2014. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 04/13/2025). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
