A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in OpenEMR up to 5.0.1.3 (Business Process Management Software). This issue affects an unknown function of the file interface/fax/faxq.php. The manipulation of the argument hylafax_server as part of a Variable leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. OS command injection occurring in versions of OpenEMR before 5.0.1.4 allows a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary commands by making a crafted request to interface/fax/faxq.php after modifying the "hylafax_server" global variable in interface/super/edit_globals.php.
The bug was discovered 08/07/2018. The weakness was shared 08/15/2018 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-15156 since 08/07/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. The successful exploitation requires a simple authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1202 for this issue.
