This issue affects the function imagecrop of the file ext/gd/gd.c of the component Image Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric error vulnerability. Integer overflow in the gdImageCrop function in ext/gd/gd.c in PHP 5.5.x before 5.5.9 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via an imagecrop function call with a large x dimension value, leading to a heap-based buffer overflow.

The weakness was disclosed 02/12/2014 by Kuba Brecka as #66356 as confirmed bug report (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.php.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-7226 since 12/28/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
