An issue was discovered in libX11 through 1.6.5. The function XListExtensions in ListExt.c is vulnerable to an off-by-one error caused by malicious server responses, leading to DoS or possibly unspecified other impact.

The bug was discovered 08/21/2018. The weakness was disclosed 08/24/2018 by Tobias Stoeckmann (oss-sec). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-14599 since 07/26/2018. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
