An issue was discovered on D-Link DIR-601 2.02NA devices. Being local to the network and having only "User" account (which is a low privilege account) access, an attacker can intercept the response from a POST request to obtain "Admin" rights due to the admin password being displayed in XML.
The bug was discovered 08/27/2018. The weakness was presented 08/29/2018 as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-12710 since 06/24/2018. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1552 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
