Drupal up to 6.x-3.4 FileField privileges management

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Drupal up to 6.x-3.4 (Content Management System) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component FileField Module. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect integrity.

The weakness was presented 02/12/2014 by Stella Power with Drupal Security Team as SA-CONTRIB-2014-015 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at drupal.org. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK. The advisory points out:

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. The advisory contains the following remark:

Drupal core is not affected.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (91153), SecurityFocus (BID 65534†) and Secunia (SA56879†). See VDB-12347, VDB-12346, VDB-12345 and VDB-12344 for similar entries. Be aware that VulDB is the high quality source for vulnerability data.
