A vulnerability was found in Little CMS 2.9 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. This issue affects the function SetData of the file cmscgats.c. The manipulation as part of a Argument leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. Little CMS (aka Little Color Management System) 2.9 has an integer overflow in the AllocateDataSet function in cmscgats.c, leading to a heap-based buffer overflow in the SetData function via a crafted file in the second argument to cmsIT8LoadFromFile.
The bug was discovered 08/13/2018. The weakness was disclosed 09/04/2018 with Oracle (Website). The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-16435 since 09/03/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
