A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Fortinet FortiOS up to 5.4.9/6.0.1 (Firewall Software). Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component RSA PKCS #1. A plaintext recovery of encrypted messages or a Man-in-the-middle (MiTM) attack on RSA PKCS #1 v1.5 encryption may be possible without knowledge of the server's private key. Fortinet FortiOS 5.4.6 to 5.4.9, 6.0.0 and 6.0.1 are vulnerable by such attack under SSL Deep Inspection feature when CPx being used.
The bug was discovered 12/22/2017. The weakness was presented 09/05/2018 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). It is possible to read the advisory at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-9192 since 04/02/2018. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
