A flaw was found in 389 Directory Server. A specially crafted search query could lead to excessive CPU consumption in the do_search() function. An unauthenticated attacker could use this flaw to provoke a denial of service.
The bug was discovered 10/01/2018. The weakness was disclosed 09/28/2018 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-14648 since 07/27/2018. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
