Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (NSIS) before 2.49 uses temporary folder locations that allow unprivileged local users to overwrite files. This allows a local attack in which either a plugin or the uninstaller can be replaced by a Trojan horse program.

The bug was discovered 11/24/2015. The weakness was presented 10/01/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at sourceforge.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2015-9267 since 10/01/2018. Local access is required to approach this attack. A single authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
