A vulnerability was found in openSUSE Open Build Service (the affected version is unknown). It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown code of the component obs-service-tar_scm. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. A path traversal traversal vulnerability in obs-service-tar_scm of Open Build Service allows remote attackers to cause access files not in the current build. On the server itself this is prevented by confining the worker via KVM. Affected releases are openSUSE Open Build Service: versions prior to 70d1aa4cc4d7b940180553a63805c22fc62e2cf0.
The bug was discovered 09/26/2018. The weakness was shared 10/02/2018 as Bug 1105361 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.suse.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-12473 since 06/15/2018. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
