A vulnerability was found in Cisco CVR100W, RV110W and RV215W (Router Operating System). It has been declared as critical. The web management interface on the Cisco RV110W firewall with firmware 1.2.0.9 and earlier, RV215W router with firmware 1.1.0.5 and earlier, and CVR100W router with firmware 1.0.1.19 and earlier does not prevent replaying of modified authentication requests, which allows remote attackers to obtain administrative access by leveraging the ability to intercept requests, aka Bug IDs CSCul94527, CSCum86264, and CSCum86275.
The weakness was presented 03/06/2014 by Gustavo Javier Speranza as cisco-sa-20140305-rpd as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at tools.cisco.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-0683 since 01/02/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1552.
It is possible to download the exploit at packetstormsecurity.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
Applying the patch cisco-sa-20140305-rpd is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at tools.cisco.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
