CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Cisco NX-OS (Router Operating System) (affected version unknown). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component SNMP. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the properties that are required to process the data safely and correctly. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

A vulnerability in the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) input packet processor of Cisco NX-OS Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to cause the SNMP application of an affected device to restart unexpectedly. The vulnerability is due to improper validation of SNMP protocol data units (PDUs) in SNMP packets. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted SNMP packet to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the SNMP application to restart multiple times, leading to a system-level restart and a denial of service (DoS) condition.

The bug was discovered 10/17/2018. The weakness was shared 10/17/2018 with Cisco as cisco-sa-20181017-nxos-snmp as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at tools.cisco.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-0456 since 11/26/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 118462 (Cisco NX-OS SNMP DoS.), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CISCO and running in the context c. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 316463 (Cisco NX-OS Software Authenticated Simple Network Management Protocol Denial of Service Vulnerability(cisco-sa-20181017-nxos-snmp)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 hours after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
