Perl 4.50 Application Module information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability marked as problematic has been reported in Perl 4.50. This affects the function CPAN CGI::Application Module. Performing a manipulation results in information disclosure. This vulnerability is reported as CVE-2013-7329. No exploit exists. It is suggested to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Perl 4.50 (Programming Language Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function CPAN CGI::Application Module. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

The CGI::Application module 4.50 and earlier for Perl, when run modes are not specified, allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information (web queries and environment details) via vectors related to the dump_html function.

The weakness was disclosed 03/05/2014 by Rhesa as Bug #84403 as confirmed bug report (CPAN). The advisory is shared at rt.cpan.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-7329 since 02/19/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72807 (Fedora 20 : perl-CGI-Application-4.50-9.fc20 (2014-2999)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks.

Upgrading to version 4.19 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at github.com. The bug report contains the following remark:

A new runmode named no_runmodes is now called rather than dump_html when no run modes are specified. This returns a message to the user reporting the problem, without exposing anything which may raise security concerns. The POD has been updated, asking the user to think about potential security issues when calling dump_html.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (91735), Tenable (72807), SecurityFocus (BID 65687†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-43835†).
