A vulnerability was found in systemd up to 239. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component dhcp6 Client. A buffer overflow vulnerability in the dhcp6 client of systemd allows a malicious dhcp6 server to overwrite heap memory in systemd-networkd. Affected releases are systemd: versions up to and including 239.
The bug was discovered 10/24/2018. The weakness was presented 10/26/2018 by Security Team with Ubuntu (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-15688 since 08/22/2018. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
