A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Oracle VM VirtualBox up to 4.2.20/4.3.6 (Virtualization Software). Affected by this issue is the function crNetRecvWriteback. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.

As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. Upgrading to version 4.3.8 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at virtualbox.org.
