The bug was discovered 10/30/2018. The weakness was presented 10/29/2018 by Sabri Haddouche with Wire Swiss GmbH as HT209192 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-4409 since 01/02/2018. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371294 (Apple iTunes for Windows Prior to 12.9.1 Multiple Vulnerabilities (HT209197)).
Upgrading to version 12.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
