Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Mozilla FirefoxOS 1.2 (Web Browser). This affects the function DeviceStorageFile::NormalizeFilePath of the component DeviceStorage API. The manipulation with the input value /../ leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in the DeviceStorage API in Mozilla FirefoxOS before 1.2.2 allows attackers to bypass the media sandbox protection mechanism, and read or modify arbitrary files, via a crafted application that uses a relative pathname for a DeviceStorageFile object.
The weakness was disclosed 03/18/2014 by Ben Turner with OUSPG as MFSA2014-25 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org.
