Details
A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox 27.0 (Web Browser). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function window.open of the file nsGlobalWindow.cpp of the component WebIDL. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The Web IDL implementation in Mozilla Firefox before 28.0, Firefox ESR 24.x before 24.4, Thunderbird before 24.4, and SeaMonkey before 2.25 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript code with chrome privileges by using an IDL fragment to trigger a window.open call.
The weakness was released 03/18/2014 by Mariusz Mlynski as MFSA2014-29 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-1510 since 01/16/2014. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional.
