A denial of service vulnerability exists in Skype for Business, aka "Microsoft Skype for Business Denial of Service Vulnerability." This affects Office 365 ProPlus, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Lync, Skype.
The bug was discovered 11/13/2018. The weakness was shared 11/13/2018 with SEC Consult Vulnerability Lab as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is available at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-8546 since 03/14/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The advisory points out:
A denial of service vulnerability exists in Skype for Business. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could cause Skype for Business to stop responding. Note that the denial of service would not allow an attacker to execute code or to elevate the attacker's user rights.
