In some Lenovo ThinkServer-branded servers, a command injection vulnerability exists in the BMC firmware download command. This allows a privileged user to download and execute arbitrary code inside the BMC. This can only be exploited by authorized privileged users.
The bug was discovered 11/15/2018. The weakness was disclosed 11/16/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at support.lenovo.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-9086 since 03/27/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation.
