A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Cisco IOS up to 15.4 (Router Operating System). Affected is an unknown code of the component DNS ALG. The TCP Input module in Cisco IOS 12.2 through 12.4 and 15.0 through 15.4, when NAT is used, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption or device reload) via crafted TCP packets, aka Bug IDs CSCuh33843 and CSCuj41494.
The weakness was disclosed 03/26/2014 with Cisco as cisco-sa-20140326-nat as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at tools.cisco.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-2109 since 02/25/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

Applying the patch cisco-sa-20140326-nat is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at tools.cisco.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
