In System Management Module (SMM) versions prior to 1.06, the SMM certificate creation and parsing logic is vulnerable to post-authentication command injection.
The bug was discovered 11/15/2018. The weakness was presented 11/27/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at support.lenovo.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-16090 since 08/29/2018. The attack can be launched remotely. A single authentication is required for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
