Two stack-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities have been discovered in CX-One Versions 4.42 and prior (CX-Programmer Versions 9.66 and prior and CX-Server Versions 5.0.23 and prior). When processing project files, the application allows input data to exceed the buffer. An attacker could use a specially crafted project file to overflow the buffer and execute code under the privileges of the application.
The bug was discovered 12/04/2018. The weakness was disclosed 12/04/2018 by mr_me with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-18993 since 11/06/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 371375 (Omron CX-One Multiple Vulnerability).
