Details
A vulnerability was found in Telecommunication Software SAMwin Contact Center Suite 5.1. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function getCurrentDBVersion in the library SAMwinLIBVB.dll of the component Credential Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a hard-coded credentials vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-798. The product contains hard-coded credentials, such as a password or cryptographic key, which it uses for its own inbound authentication, outbound communication to external components, or encryption of internal data. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity.
The weakness was presented 03/13/2014 by Tobias Ospelt and Max Moser with modzero AG as MZ-13-06 as not defined advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at modzero.ch. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-10002. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1110.001. The advisory points out:
The SAMwin Agent is designed to use hard coded database authentication credentials to connect to the SQL database server during startup, prior to any other authentication. To logon to the SAMwin Agent application, the user enters his access credentials into the corresponding fields in the login mask. When a user enters his SAMwin account information into the login screen, SQL queries are sent directly to the database server using hard coded credentials verifying the given username and password against credentials stored in the database.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 174 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
Upgrading to version 6.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
