This vulnerability is listed as CVE-2018-1000876. The attack must be carried out locally. There is no available exploit.
Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in GNU binutils up to 2.32 (Programming Tool Software). Affected by this issue is the function objdump/bfd_get_dynamic_reloc_upper_bound/bfd_canonicalize_dynamic_reloc. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
binutils version 2.32 and earlier contains a Integer Overflow vulnerability in objdump, bfd_get_dynamic_reloc_upper_bound,bfd_canonicalize_dynamic_reloc that can result in Integer overflow trigger heap overflow. Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code.. This attack appear to be exploitable via Local. This vulnerability appears to have been fixed in after commit 3a551c7a1b80fca579461774860574eabfd7f18f.
