A vulnerability was found in libarchive 3.3.0 (File Compression Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function archive_acl_from_text_l of the file libarchive/archive_acl.c. libarchive version commit 379867ecb330b3a952fb7bfa7bffb7bbd5547205 onwards (release v3.3.0 onwards) contains a CWE-476: NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in ACL parser - libarchive/archive_acl.c, archive_acl_from_text_l() that can result in Crash/DoS. This attack appear to be exploitable via the victim must open a specially crafted archive file.
The bug was discovered 12/13/2018. The weakness was released 12/20/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.launchpad.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-1000879 since 12/20/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
