Details
A vulnerability was found in libjpeg-turbo 2.0.1 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function tjLoadImage. The manipulation as part of a BMP Image leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The tjLoadImage function in libjpeg-turbo 2.0.1 has an integer overflow with a resultant heap-based buffer overflow via a BMP image because multiplication of pitch and height is mishandled, as demonstrated by tjbench.
The bug was discovered 11/25/2018. The weakness was presented 12/21/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-20330 since 12/21/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
