A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in HHVM up to 3.27.4/3.30. This affects the function Memcache::getextendedstats. The manipulation as part of a Hostname/Port leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The Memcache::getextendedstats function can be used to trigger an out-of-bounds read. Exploiting this issue requires control over memcached server hostnames and/or ports. This affects all supported versions of HHVM (3.30 and 3.27.4 and below).
The bug was discovered 12/18/2018. The weakness was released 12/31/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-6340 since 01/26/2018. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
