In Artifex Ghostscript before 9.26, a carefully crafted PDF file can trigger an extremely long running computation when parsing the file.
The bug was discovered 11/20/2018. The weakness was disclosed 01/02/2019 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.debian.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-19478 since 11/22/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 277610 (Fedora Security Update for ghostscript (FEDORA-2019-077a3f23c0)).
Upgrading to version 9.26 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.ghostscript.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
