VMware vSphere Client 5.0 before Update 3 and 5.1 before Update 2 does not properly validate X.509 certificates, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers via a crafted certificate.

It is assigned to the family VMware ESX Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121998 (VMware vSphere Client Spoofing Vulnerability (VMSA-2014-0003)).
Upgrading to version 5.0 Update 3 or 5.1 Update 2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
