A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Oracle Java SE and Java SE Embedded 6u71/7u51/8 (Programming Language Software). This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component JAXP. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The issue has been introduced in 01/14/2014. The weakness was disclosed 04/15/2014 with Oracle as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - April 2014 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at oracle.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-2403 since 03/13/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 91 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73654 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 185086 (HP-UX running Java6, Multiple Vulnerabilities(HPSBUX03092)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
