Juniper Junos Firewall Filter IPv6 Packet resource consumption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Juniper Junos (Router Operating System) (affected version not known). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Firewall Filter. The manipulation as part of a IPv6 Packet leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

On EX2300, EX3400, EX4600, QFX3K and QFX5K series, firewall filter configuration cannot perform packet matching on any IPv6 extension headers. This issue may allow IPv6 packets that should have been blocked to be forwarded. IPv4 packet filtering is unaffected by this vulnerability. Affected releases are Juniper Networks Junos OS on EX and QFX series;: 14.1X53 versions prior to 14.1X53-D47; 15.1 versions prior to 15.1R7; 15.1X53 versions prior to 15.1X53-D234 on QFX5200/QFX5110 series; 15.1X53 versions prior to 15.1X53-D591 on EX2300/EX3400 series; 16.1 versions prior to 16.1R7; 17.1 versions prior to 17.1R2-S10, 17.1R3; 17.2 versions prior to 17.2R3; 17.3 versions prior to 17.3R3; 17.4 versions prior to 17.4R2; 18.1 versions prior to 18.1R2.
