A vulnerability was found in Cisco WebEx Network Recording Player and Webex Player on Windows (Unified Communication Software) (the affected version unknown) and classified as critical. A vulnerability in the Cisco Webex Network Recording Player for Microsoft Windows and the Cisco Webex Player for Microsoft Windows could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on an affected system. The vulnerability exist because the affected software improperly validates Advanced Recording Format (ARF) and Webex Recording Format (WRF) files. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a user a malicious ARF or WRF file via a link or email attachment and persuading the user to open the file with the affected software. Successful exploitation could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected system.
The bug was discovered 01/23/2019. The weakness was disclosed 01/23/2019 by Kushal Arvind Shah with Zero Day Initiative as cisco-sa-20190123-webex-rce as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at tools.cisco.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-1638 since 12/06/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
